Porsche, a name synonymous with the elite and the upper class, is a brand admired by almost all auto enthusiasts. Though people identify the name Porsche with the Porsche 911 series, it has many variants of the 911 series. One such variant is the Porsche Boxster.

The Porsche Boxster, a legacy in the roadster series, is a roadster from the Porsche with a mid-engine. The Porsche Boxster was designed as a roadster from the very early stages of its production. The name ‘Boxster’ is a portmanteau word from the words boxer and roadster, the first word referring to the vehicle’s boxer engine or horizontally-opposed engine and the second referring to the vehicle’s convertible top.

The first series of Porsche Boxster was introduced by the end of 1996. The flat six-cylinder engine with 2.5 litre capacity was its specialty. The year 2000 saw the introduction of the new series of Boxster, the S variant. This variant had a larger motor. The Porsche 986 model was also altered with more powerful engine. Both models underwent up gradation in 2003. With further updates in 2005, Porsche identified the Boxster as a new model. In 2007, the motors of both the models were altered with the motors corresponding Porsche Cayman models. From its introduction in 1997 to the introduction of the Cayenne SUV in 2003, Porsche Boxster held the record as the Porsche’s largest seller in terms of volume.

Porsche from the beginning till date has always been about the sports cars. But today there are innovative roadsters and SUVs. What makes Porsche elegant and distinctive is its agility, fuel economy, higher safety rating and amazing electronic gadgets. With an uncompromising quality and sexy designs, Porsche still amazes the world.
