It might look crude but this Porsche prototype is set to be the fastest but the greenest Porsche there is today. Meet the Porsche 918 Spyder. The details about this Porsche is very limited as is scheduled to be unwrapped next year but fans and critics of the brand alike know that this supercar hybrid is set to bring the bar to another notch.

The Porsche 918 Spyder gets its power from three different sources: there is the mid-mounted V8 engine with 4.6L displacement and gives out 425kW, a rear axle hybrid module with an output of 90kW, and a front axle electric motor with an output of 80kW. The combined output of these three sources sum up to 574kW and a monstrous torque of 750Nm.

The fuel consumption of this Porsche supercar is reported to be at 3 liters per 100 kilomets and an emission of Co2 of just 70 grams per kilometer. The 918 Spyder, with these, numbers, is about 25% greener than the popular Toyota Prius.

The 7-speed PDK gearbox is inspired by the setup of the 911 Turbo but has been overhauled for this project. The transmission is upside down compared to the position on the 911 in order to improve the center of gravity of the 918 Spyder. The engine and the hybrid module paired with this transmission sends the power to the rear wheels while the motor in front transfers power to the car’s front wheels.

This Porsche supercar can go from 0 to 100 km/h before the stop watch hits 3 seconds and 0 to 200 in barely 9 seconds. The top speed is pegged at 325 km/h. The pure electric mode can get your 25 kilometers with the acceleration going to 150km/h before the petrol engine enters the picture.

The 918 Spyder though will not be produced and will only have a very limited run, and all will only be available for left hand drive markets. The tag price of this Targa top convertible 2-seater is expected to be at $1.5 million. It will join the Carrera GT, 911 GT1, 959, Carrera GTS, and the Porsche Turbo in the line up of the brand’s ultimate rides.

Luxury car marque Porsche is very careful in terms of handling information about the 918 Spyder they are currently developing. New details though are starting to seep out the internet.

Porsche recently confirmed that the 918 Spyder will be unwrapped for the first time at the 2013 auto show in Frankfurt. There will also be key changes on the car veering away from its concept vehicle form as revealed thru Porsche’s Christoporus Magazine.

Some are speculating that the major changes might be done with its engine. It might still be a V8 but upgrade it from 3.4L to a more powerful 4.6L.. The new powerplant might make use of new technologies like central injectors near the spark plugs, design of the oil feed for the crankshaft, lightweight pistons, variable -pressure oil pump among others.

The 918 Spyder is expected to give out 550 horsepower which is around 50 hp more than the concept. It might also lose one of its electric motors but what will remain is still enough to produce 230 hp which gives the car a combined total output of 730 horsepower.

The production version will be longer by 5.8 inches and 0.5 inch wider than the concept car. It will tip the scale below the 3,700 mark.

The report added that the deliveries will also start after the unveiling in Frankfurt but with that late into 2013, we are pretty sure buyers will get their new Porsche by 2014. The order book can still accommodate your name but be ready to burn a big hole in your bank account as the tag price might hit $845,000.

German tuning firm edo Competition tweaked and had fun with its Panamera S and turned it into a powerful Hellboy.

Edo Competition is straight from hell as described by the tuning company trying to rationalize their choice of an odd name for the Porsche. Edo Competition updated the performance of the car as well as enhanced its styling.

The team worked on the V8 4.8L powerplant of the Porsche Panamera S by changing its exhaust system to a less restrictive sport-type and also reconfiguring the ECU. The result is a boost of 65 horsepower and additional 50Nm of torque, improving the number of the Panamera S to 465 HP and 550 Nm. This enables the Panamera Hellboy to go from 0 to 100 kilometers an hour in a matter of 4.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 305 km/h.

Edo also worked on the handling of the car and improved it by giving the driver a simple button to push to activate the lowering module the brings the car 30 mm lower while rolling on the 21 inch rims and tires of 265/35 ZR 21 in front and 305/30 ZR 21 for the rear.

Subtle styling is not in the vocabulary of Edo Competition and the Hellboy Panamera is no different. The aerodynamic package gives the ride carbon fiber elements like the front apron , lip spoiler, rear apron, ducktail spoiler, side skirts, mirror caps, and new daytime lights. You will also not fail to notice the green pin stripes on the body of the car.

Edo Competition also gives buyers options for the steering wheel, upholstery, and trim for the interior.

Good news to all Porsche fans out there. According to recent reports, the luxury car brand is expecting to debut the long-wheelbase model of its famous sedan, the Panamera this 2012. Moreover, a heavily redesigned version of the four-door model will roll out in 2013.

We have received word from the automobile magazine, Auto Bild, which is based in Germany, that the Panamera’s little brother, the Pajun, will debut sometime in 2015 or 2016. That’s definitely something that will keep Porsche patrons excited in the years to come.

The automotive community has been buzzing about the Porsche Panamera LWB for a long time now. While nothing yet has been confirmed, speculations pile up when a source from Britain’s Car magazine, who was based in Stuttgart, Germany, confirmed that there really is a Porsche Panamera LWB in the works. However, the luxury brand is said to be planning to debut the longer version of the sedan early in 2012 which is expected to be a hit with Chinese consumers rivaling popular series like the Audi A8 and the BMW 7-Series.

Still, according to recent reports from automobile publications, the 2012 Porsche Panamera will have more legroom in the rear seat. Another Panamera version is said to be in the works. This time it’s a coupe version that was said to be a great successor of the famed Porsche 928 model.

So far, we are still waiting for the official specs of what will power the 2012 Porsche Panamera.

Porsche has its eyes on returning to the 24 Hours of Le Mans where it is considered as the winningest marque. Porsche will be entering the toughest competition of the Le Mans Prototype Class 1 by 2014.

The German carmaker has maintained its strong presence in the GT class of the classic endurance race for modified sports cars but the brand has not fielded cars to vie for top honors since back in 1998. when Laurent Aiello, Allan McNish, and Stephane Ortelli were behind the wheels of a 911 GT1 for the win. It was Posche’s 16th win out of the 29 years of Le Mans with the first win they bagged in 1970. Audi has won 10 out of the last twelve years.

Porsche has not released any details yet with regard to their plans. The Division 1 at Le Mans has been ruled in the last six years by cars running on diesel .

Audi changed the game by entering with an R10 powered by a turbodiesel powerplant and they have grabbed the victory in the last two outings at the 24 Hours of Le mans using their R15 and their R18 models. Peugueot also won using their diesel powered 908 back in 2009.

Porsche thru Penske Racing fielded their RS Spyder in 2005 and dominated the race not only on the LMP2 prototype category but also for the Division 1. During the first season of the car, it topped six races in the LMP2 and also one victory overall. In 2007, the Spyder took home eight class victories outmaneuvering the other cars of the LMP1 except for the Audi’s.

Penske stopped joining the competition after their 2008 run during which the new rules affecting the output of their V8 3.4L gasoline engine went into effect.

Tuning firm SpeedART known for their works on the speedmonsters of Porsche recently released a 911 Turbo kit that comes with a PDK double-clutch gearbox.

SpeedART gives the flat 6 3.8L engine with larger intercooler, bigger turbos, new manifold, and a sport exhaust to boost its output by 141 horsepower and its torque by 100 pound feet to 641 hp and a torque of 664 lb-ft. The PDK transmission in the equation of this modified 911 Tubro makes it blast to 124 miles per hour in just 8 seconds and have a top speed of 208 mph.

SpeedART also gives the Porsche a new bumper in front that has brake cooling intakes, wing, rear diffuser, and side skirts. The 911 Turbo will roll on a set of 3-piece forged rims that can be ordered in the color combinations of your liking. The front tires come at 245/30 while the back gets 325/25. The aggressive stance of the car is completed by the sport suspension system that is fully adjustable.

The interior comes with carbon fiber trim, matched seat stitches, instrument panel, and seatbelt. The SpeedART creation comes with sporty steering wheel with F1 like shifters.

Some may not really find the interiors that appealing nor the heavy looking rims, but we credit SpeedART for giving the Porsche 911 Turbo a much aggressive overall feel.

The blog of car designer Jon Sibal features a story about the new racecar Panamera S made by Porsche Racing and N. Tehcnology which they have been constructing since Februrary.

The Porsche racecar makes use of a space frame made from aluminum to keep the weight down to about 1,320 kilograms which is 550 kg lighter than the stock version of the Panamera. The car will be fitted with a V8 4.8L powerplant that gives out 450 horsepower which is 50hp better than what the Panamera S can do but 50 hp lower than its Turbo variant.

The powerful engine is paired up with a six speed gearbox. The aerodynamic setup includes installation of the rear wing, widened fenders for front and back, and front splitter. The suspensions makes use of double wishbone for the front with adjustable dampers and 4-rod multilink with adjustable dampers for the rear.

The car is being designed by the engineers to meet the regulations for the Superstar Racing Series that is based in Italy. The racecar had its first taste of the track last May as it prepares for its first race this coming June 13 in Hockenheim, Germany.

Fabriozo Giovanardi will be the designated driver for the N. Technology. Giovanardi has 8 titles under his belt for conquering different touring championships including the back to back win at the British Touring Car Championship in 2007 and in 2008; and also the European Touring Car Championship in 2002.

Patent drawings of a possible attempt of Porsche to introduce a 4-door convertible Panamera is all over the internet. The drawings show that the architecture has a permanent section of central roofing.

Porsche insiders recently commented that the plan for the 4-door convertible has been cancelled but the paper trail for patent applications in the United States point in the other direction.

The design reveals that the new car using a 4-door configuration will need some stiffening on the Panamera’s bulkhead and floorpan so that sufficient integrity and rigidity of the structure can be achieved.

It will be quite a bold move to bring a four-door convertible to the showrooms. It will be a more daring step than rolling out the usual two-door top down, but it will be giving Porsche an advantage in having unique points to sell to consumers.

Retaining the 4-door architecture gives the convertible the same space of the interiors as in the saloon. The boot will somehow be compromised by the roof. Looking at the design of the four-door Panamera, it seems that the car will be sporting a fabric roof.

Other car manufacturers have also considered producing 4-door convertibles but the additional weights to provide the required structure stiffening remain to be the stumbling blocks.

Porsche has finally uncovered the 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid after three years of waiting. The 2010 Geneva Motor Show plays host to the redesigned crossover while the auto show in New York this coming April will be its North American debut.

The Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is about 400 pounds lighter than its older sibling which ruled between 2003 and 2010. It also boasts of better fuel mileage.

Unlike the Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid which shares the platform with the Cayenne, Porsche decides to keep the V-8 options for its engines. The entry level Cayenne will have a V-6 3.6L that can give out 300 horsepower coupled with a triptonic automatic gearbox.

The S Hybrid is packed with 333 hp drawn from supercharged 3.0L V6 coupled with a 47 hp electric motor. Combine the two and you will have an impressive 427 ft lb of torque at 1,000 rpm. Talk about power which can make the S Hybrid king of stoplight racing.

The top of the line Cayenne S will sport the V8. One can give out 400 hp while the Cayenne Turbo can output 500 hp. Though more powerful, these two versions are 23% more fuel efficient than the older Cayenne.

According to Porsche the Cayenne S Hybrid can also shut down its engine while “sailing” at 97 mph unlike other hybrids which can only switch off their engines at very low speed. The S Hybrid version will only emit 193 g/km of carbon dioxide while having a fuel mileage of 28.3 mpg. The Cayenne S Hybrid is the most fuel efficient model in Porsche’s line up.

The Cayenne S Hybrid and the base V6 model will hit dealerships this fall. The V8s will reach the US shore by July this year.
