2013-porsche-911-gt3-cupAfter a few rounds of teasing, Porsche finally unwrapped the cover of the first 991-based race cars. The car manufacturer recently unveiled the 2013 version of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup during the Night of Champions in Germany, marking the culmination of the motorsport season.

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car is considered as one of the most successful vehicles in the automotive world. The carmaker has delivered 2,395 units to different garages since its debut back in 1998. Surely, the newest iteration will be highly sought for.

Just like its older versions, the one shown here was developed for one-make racing particularly the Mobil 1 Supercup. And just like its previous versions, the 911 GT3 Cup hints of how Porsche will make the street-legal Porsche 911 GT3 cousin.

The 911 GT3 Cup gets a 3.8L flat six powerplant that can grunt out 460HP while revving at 7,500 rpm or about 10 horses more powerful than its predecessor. The power is sent by a dog-type six-speed gearbox to the rear wheels.

The Michelin that hugs the rims are also wider. The rear comes 10.6 inches wide while the rubbers in front are measure at 12.2 inches. The designers also equip the car with improved brakes using 15-inch ventilated discs with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston caliper for the rear.

The team also puts emphasis on the safety of the driver. The maker had the safety cage redesigned to better protect the driver in case of a collision or a roll. They also incorporated a safety hatch on the roof so the driver can be given prompt medical attention after a mishap.

The price of the vehicle is set around $243,245 that’s without taxes yet.
