It might look crude but this Porsche prototype is set to be the fastest but the greenest Porsche there is today. Meet the Porsche 918 Spyder. The details about this Porsche is very limited as is scheduled to be unwrapped next year but fans and critics of the brand alike know that this supercar hybrid is set to bring the bar to another notch.

The Porsche 918 Spyder gets its power from three different sources: there is the mid-mounted V8 engine with 4.6L displacement and gives out 425kW, a rear axle hybrid module with an output of 90kW, and a front axle electric motor with an output of 80kW. The combined output of these three sources sum up to 574kW and a monstrous torque of 750Nm.

The fuel consumption of this Porsche supercar is reported to be at 3 liters per 100 kilomets and an emission of Co2 of just 70 grams per kilometer. The 918 Spyder, with these, numbers, is about 25% greener than the popular Toyota Prius.

The 7-speed PDK gearbox is inspired by the setup of the 911 Turbo but has been overhauled for this project. The transmission is upside down compared to the position on the 911 in order to improve the center of gravity of the 918 Spyder. The engine and the hybrid module paired with this transmission sends the power to the rear wheels while the motor in front transfers power to the car’s front wheels.

This Porsche supercar can go from 0 to 100 km/h before the stop watch hits 3 seconds and 0 to 200 in barely 9 seconds. The top speed is pegged at 325 km/h. The pure electric mode can get your 25 kilometers with the acceleration going to 150km/h before the petrol engine enters the picture.

The 918 Spyder though will not be produced and will only have a very limited run, and all will only be available for left hand drive markets. The tag price of this Targa top convertible 2-seater is expected to be at $1.5 million. It will join the Carrera GT, 911 GT1, 959, Carrera GTS, and the Porsche Turbo in the line up of the brand’s ultimate rides.

Good news to all Porsche fans out there. According to recent reports, the luxury car brand is expecting to debut the long-wheelbase model of its famous sedan, the Panamera this 2012. Moreover, a heavily redesigned version of the four-door model will roll out in 2013.

We have received word from the automobile magazine, Auto Bild, which is based in Germany, that the Panamera’s little brother, the Pajun, will debut sometime in 2015 or 2016. That’s definitely something that will keep Porsche patrons excited in the years to come.

The automotive community has been buzzing about the Porsche Panamera LWB for a long time now. While nothing yet has been confirmed, speculations pile up when a source from Britain’s Car magazine, who was based in Stuttgart, Germany, confirmed that there really is a Porsche Panamera LWB in the works. However, the luxury brand is said to be planning to debut the longer version of the sedan early in 2012 which is expected to be a hit with Chinese consumers rivaling popular series like the Audi A8 and the BMW 7-Series.

Still, according to recent reports from automobile publications, the 2012 Porsche Panamera will have more legroom in the rear seat. Another Panamera version is said to be in the works. This time it’s a coupe version that was said to be a great successor of the famed Porsche 928 model.

So far, we are still waiting for the official specs of what will power the 2012 Porsche Panamera.

Porsche has its eyes on returning to the 24 Hours of Le Mans where it is considered as the winningest marque. Porsche will be entering the toughest competition of the Le Mans Prototype Class 1 by 2014.

The German carmaker has maintained its strong presence in the GT class of the classic endurance race for modified sports cars but the brand has not fielded cars to vie for top honors since back in 1998. when Laurent Aiello, Allan McNish, and Stephane Ortelli were behind the wheels of a 911 GT1 for the win. It was Posche’s 16th win out of the 29 years of Le Mans with the first win they bagged in 1970. Audi has won 10 out of the last twelve years.

Porsche has not released any details yet with regard to their plans. The Division 1 at Le Mans has been ruled in the last six years by cars running on diesel .

Audi changed the game by entering with an R10 powered by a turbodiesel powerplant and they have grabbed the victory in the last two outings at the 24 Hours of Le mans using their R15 and their R18 models. Peugueot also won using their diesel powered 908 back in 2009.

Porsche thru Penske Racing fielded their RS Spyder in 2005 and dominated the race not only on the LMP2 prototype category but also for the Division 1. During the first season of the car, it topped six races in the LMP2 and also one victory overall. In 2007, the Spyder took home eight class victories outmaneuvering the other cars of the LMP1 except for the Audi’s.

Penske stopped joining the competition after their 2008 run during which the new rules affecting the output of their V8 3.4L gasoline engine went into effect.

Tuning firm SpeedART known for their works on the speedmonsters of Porsche recently released a 911 Turbo kit that comes with a PDK double-clutch gearbox.

SpeedART gives the flat 6 3.8L engine with larger intercooler, bigger turbos, new manifold, and a sport exhaust to boost its output by 141 horsepower and its torque by 100 pound feet to 641 hp and a torque of 664 lb-ft. The PDK transmission in the equation of this modified 911 Tubro makes it blast to 124 miles per hour in just 8 seconds and have a top speed of 208 mph.

SpeedART also gives the Porsche a new bumper in front that has brake cooling intakes, wing, rear diffuser, and side skirts. The 911 Turbo will roll on a set of 3-piece forged rims that can be ordered in the color combinations of your liking. The front tires come at 245/30 while the back gets 325/25. The aggressive stance of the car is completed by the sport suspension system that is fully adjustable.

The interior comes with carbon fiber trim, matched seat stitches, instrument panel, and seatbelt. The SpeedART creation comes with sporty steering wheel with F1 like shifters.

Some may not really find the interiors that appealing nor the heavy looking rims, but we credit SpeedART for giving the Porsche 911 Turbo a much aggressive overall feel.

Patent drawings of a possible attempt of Porsche to introduce a 4-door convertible Panamera is all over the internet. The drawings show that the architecture has a permanent section of central roofing.

Porsche insiders recently commented that the plan for the 4-door convertible has been cancelled but the paper trail for patent applications in the United States point in the other direction.

The design reveals that the new car using a 4-door configuration will need some stiffening on the Panamera’s bulkhead and floorpan so that sufficient integrity and rigidity of the structure can be achieved.

It will be quite a bold move to bring a four-door convertible to the showrooms. It will be a more daring step than rolling out the usual two-door top down, but it will be giving Porsche an advantage in having unique points to sell to consumers.

Retaining the 4-door architecture gives the convertible the same space of the interiors as in the saloon. The boot will somehow be compromised by the roof. Looking at the design of the four-door Panamera, it seems that the car will be sporting a fabric roof.

Other car manufacturers have also considered producing 4-door convertibles but the additional weights to provide the required structure stiffening remain to be the stumbling blocks.

We still don’t know if this Panamera convertible will ever go into production. Check out the drawings and the renderings that we have here.

Porsche has finally uncovered the 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid after three years of waiting. The 2010 Geneva Motor Show plays host to the redesigned crossover while the auto show in New York this coming April will be its North American debut.

The Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is about 400 pounds lighter than its older sibling which ruled between 2003 and 2010. It also boasts of better fuel mileage.

Unlike the Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid which shares the platform with the Cayenne, Porsche decides to keep the V-8 options for its engines. The entry level Cayenne will have a V-6 3.6L that can give out 300 horsepower coupled with a triptonic automatic gearbox.

The S Hybrid is packed with 333 hp drawn from supercharged 3.0L V6 coupled with a 47 hp electric motor. Combine the two and you will have an impressive 427 ft lb of torque at 1,000 rpm. Talk about power which can make the S Hybrid king of stoplight racing.

The top of the line Cayenne S will sport the V8. One can give out 400 hp while the Cayenne Turbo can output 500 hp. Though more powerful, these two versions are 23% more fuel efficient than the older Cayenne.

According to Porsche the Cayenne S Hybrid can also shut down its engine while “sailing” at 97 mph unlike other hybrids which can only switch off their engines at very low speed. The S Hybrid version will only emit 193 g/km of carbon dioxide while having a fuel mileage of 28.3 mpg. The Cayenne S Hybrid is the most fuel efficient model in Porsche’s line up.

The Cayenne S Hybrid and the base V6 model will hit dealerships this fall. The V8s will reach the US shore by July this year.

The world is undergoing a serious financial crisis. The car industry has not been spared as evident in the recent revelation that even luxury carmaker Porsche has experienced a decrease in sales. Porsche officially revealed in statement that they have been having a hard time keeping up their sales since March. Also earlier this year, they have already experienced 27% decrease in their sales.

Among the wide array of Porsche models, the Boxster was hit by nearly 60% decrease in sales despite the fact that it has been remodeled recently.

In order to remedy the damage and improve sales, Porsche is planning to make a cheaper base model for the Boxster. If the reports push through, new Boxster would get the same Audi TTS engine.

The existing Boxster model carries a six-cylinder engine with 255hp and 213lb-ft of torque. If the Audi TT(R)S engine finds its way into the new base Boxster, it would give an extra 20hp and another 44lb-ft of torque. It would also give the new Boxster a cheaper price tag.

Auto Motor and Sports reported that introduction of the TTS engine to the Boxster has been raised during the Audi-Porsche meeting. Once Porsche gives the go signal, perhaps the cheaper version of Boxster would rake in new buyers. At present, the cheapest Boxster is sold at approximately €46,500 in Europe. With the TTS engine in place, it could go as low as €40,000.

Unfortunately, the conflict between Porsche and Audi purists could be an obstacle for the new Boxster. There are also reports saying the Porsche is planning to add another roaster below the Boxster range.

The Porsche 911 model lives up to the Porsche name very well, and are an excellent choice for rental in Las Vegas. If you make the decision to rent a Porsche 911 for your trip to Vegas, you won’t be disappointed. This vehicle handles like a dream, and feels like one too. You’re sure to be the envy of the town, even by this city’s high standards. This power-house of engineering can sustain speeds up to 200 miles per hour – exceptional, even for a sports car. Its ability to do this while maintaining a smooth, comfortable ride is unparalleled and goes to show what a great design this vehicle is.

You don’t want to spend your vacation riding around Las Vegas in your family car, getting stared at by onlookers, for the wrong reasons. Show off, in style, by renting a Porsche 911 and let Las Vegas stop, and take notice. When cruise around the city in this baby, time almost waits for you. Passers-by stop what they’re doing to get a closer look and you may get waved at by people you don’t even recognize – everyone wants to know a celebrity, and the Porsche 911 makes you feel like one!

On top of the obvious cosmetic attractions of this vehicle, it excels in the area of comfort as well. You would be hard pressed to find a more comfortable vehicle that can go this fast, and still looks fantastic, inside and out. Just be careful not to fall asleep at the wheel in the cosy, relaxing interior that makes even your bed seem hard. Riding around in this speed machine is nothing short of a fantasy, that you can make a reality, when you rent a Porsche 911.

You’re already going to Vegas. Don’t ride around in your little hatchback, or family sedan. Even if you have a nice SUV, remember, celebrities frequent Las Vegas – so you still won’t blend in without a neat sports car. Now you can just rent one and be a celebrity for your vacation – or at least look, feel, and live like one! Just don’t forget to bring it back when you’re done…it’ll be there when you go back to Vegas again, waiting for you. Make renting the beautiful Porsche 911 an integral part of your holiday, or business, plan for Las Vegas!

The rumor mill of the car industry has been generating some buzz for around a year now about the entry-level roadster from Porsche which may be based on the platform of the Bluesport Roadster in collaboration with Volkswagen. The move makes a lot of sense since Porsche has been focusing on pure sports cars like the Panamera and the Cayenne.

The car can is a welcome development for most consumers with only the sports car elitists raising their arms in objection. Sports car lovers would love the balanced and easy to drive rear or mid engine sports car. The affordable price tag will satisfy those who want to get their hands behind a Porsche steering wheel without draining their savings account.

The sub-Boxster model might be the rebirth of the 356 which rocketed Porsche to the sports car scene. The collaborative platform will share elements with the Audi R4 and the Volkswagen Bluesport. The three cars will share elements to produce the new Porsche roadster.

The R4 from Audi is expected to hit the market by 2011 so the new Porsche car might come a year after if everything on the development side goes smoothly. The powerplant is expected to have a displacement of 1.9L with a supercharger or mild turbocharging to have an output of around 250 horsepower.

The reborn 356 is expected to get a new treatment for its interiors and exteriors to distinguish it from the other siblings in the Porsche garage.

According to experts, the lightweight car may rival the performance of the Lotus Exige with a less stiff price tag in the United States. The Porsche Boxster and its S variant is priced near the line of the Lotus Exige and Elise but their heavier poundage and more horsepower placed them on a different class.

This information came from a reliable source but a lot of things can still happen before 2012 since Porsche is on soft grounds in terms of finances.

Offers for the resignation of Wendelin Wiedeking as Porsche CEO might be as high as $141 million so the Volkswagen merger may push through. This is according to an earlier report by a German newspaper.

The chief of the union of Porsche Uwe Hueck clarifies that no decision has been made if Wedeking will be replaced by Michael Macht who served as the past production chief of the car maker.

The payoff has been generating a loud buzz around the auto industry but it has not been confirmed that such a deal will push through. The CEO has been under the microscope for allowing the holding company to accumulate debts of approximately $12.7 billion while attempting to takeover VW.

Wendelin Wiedeking

Wiedeking also opposed the plans of VW to take a 50% stake at Porsche to ease the company of its financial burdens.

The CEO has been the top man for Porsche since 1993 and has transformed the company from its laggard state to a profitable one until the recent financial crisis.

Under the leadership of Wideking, the pre-tax earnings of Porsche shoot up from 4 billion Euros to about 5.9 billion Euros in 2008. The figures were still set to climb until the credit crunch.

The compensation package being offered for Wiedeking to quit is commensurate to his earnings as Porsche CEO. He is receiving the highest salary in the auto industry which was pegged at $89 million per year in 2007.

There is no final move yet as Porsche considers its moves and offers from parties like Volkswagen and Qatar.
